Club Honours & History

Over 140 Years of Heritage

Founded in 1886, Leicester Hockey Club is one of the oldest and most enduring field hockey clubs in the Midlands. For over 140 years, the club has provided a dedicated home for competitive and social hockey in Leicestershire. Built on a foundation of sportsmanship, community, and a passion for the game, generations of local players have proudly worn our club colors.

For much of its early history, the club operated primarily as a men's organisation setting high standards of competitive play, establishing long-standing rivalries across the Midlands and building a proud tradition of club loyalty. This strong foundation of senior men's hockey created the robust infrastructure, competitive spirit, and club culture that allowed Leicester HC to endure and flourish for over a century. A major milestone in our modern evolution then came with the official formation of our Women's section. Opening the club to women's hockey transformed Leicester Hockey Club into a fully integrated, modern sports club. This addition brought fresh competitive energy and talent to the club, expanding our reach and establishing balanced representation across all levels of regional league play.

Deeply committed to the future of the sport, Leicester Hockey Club works in close partnership with South Leicester Youth Hockey (SLYH). This vital collaboration is dedicated to encouraging, coaching, and inspiring the next generation of hockey players in the region. By combining resources and coaching expertise, we provide young players with a seamless, supportive pathway from grassroots junior training all the way into senior club hockey.

Now celebrating over 140 years of history, Leicester Hockey Club is larger and more vibrant than ever. We have successfully grown into a fully inclusive community club fielding four competitive Men’s teams and four competitive Women’s teams in the Midlands Leagues. Alongside our senior sides, we support a dedicated Veterans team, fast-paced Mixed tournament squads, a thriving Junior Academy, and a Walking Hockey programme, ensuring that the rich legacy of Leicester Hockey Club continues for decades to come.

Over the years Leicester Hockey Club has introduced a procession of youngsters to the sport through our Junior Development Programme.

Here are some of the fantastic players LHC has had the privilege to help on their hockey journeys:
