Leicester Hockey Club was established in 1885 (not 1889 as some sources state). In more recent history, the Club was for a long time based at Illston-on-the-Hill, sharing the clubhouse and grass pitches with the cricket team and Illston Sports Association. From the early 1990s the teams (sometimes three, four or five, depending on the season) entered a nomaic period of playing at several artificial pitches (Guthlaxton College, Uppingham College and others) before settling in the late "noughties" at its new home ground at Leicester Grammar School.
Our newly redesigned (2021) club badge and kit are based on the traditional badge and colours of red and white, whilst maintaining the black from more recent designs.
Leicester Hockey Club was originally a men's hockey club, but now prides itself in offering an inclusive range of teams for all.
The Club plays all home matches at Leicester Grammar School and runs four senior men’s teams and a women's team, each playing in the Midlands Region Leagues. The club also runs a Badgers team, a Masters (Veterans) team and coaching and games for all age-groups. In addition, LHC provision includes many different squads each week (running our own junior and senior leagues on Thursday evenings). LHC has a well established hockey development programme for boys and girls from primary school age all the way up to senior hockey.
Leicester Hockey Club can boast some of the best hockey facilities in the Midlands with thanks to a long term agreement with Leicester Grammar School.
Training Sessions 2022-23 are:
Juniors Tuesdays at 17.30 - Men's Tuesdays at 18.55 (to 20.30) - Women's Thursdays at 18.55 (to 20.30).
