Captains vs MIXED Sutton Coldfield

The LHC Mixed side progressed into the next round of the cup on Sunday. They played a Sutton Coldfield team that ranged from men's 1s to 5s and ladies 1s to 6s. Their mens 1s captain played at the back and cancelled out many of our attacks in their 25. Sutton Coldfield undoubtedly dominated possession 70/30 (ish), nevertheless LHC dominated the chances going close with Waddo narrowly putting it wide from a nice move. Ethan did all the hard work beating several players and then proceeded to smash one over the bar (and fence). Jack drove the entire length of the pitch showing his class, only to hit the line for the D and wiff an air shot leaving him with 80 yards to track back and defend the counter!

At half time there remained no score and clearly Livs orange slices did the trick. The second half saw less chances, the first of which was Lauren's back post miss, after an excellently worked move down the line from Lulu to Wadd onto Cruxton into Lauren. Ethan had a rather brilliant drag flick even more brilliantly picked off the line by the post man high above his head before Wadd scored his drag flick by roofing it at speed straight down the middle. Sutton Coldfield capitalised on a poor clearance by Meggo, won a short corner and buried it in the bottom corner, nothing Owen could do about it. It looked as though nothing would separate the teams until the dying seconds where a tired legged Meggo couldn't quite get to the ball so instead decided the hit and hope approach might work best. A deflection meant it flew into the D at waist height where Wadd played what can only be described as a scoop up over the keeper onto the underside of the crossbar and crucially across the line. 2-1 LHC! A well fought and enjoyable victory was topped off by some lovely samosas and tandoori naans in the club house where it was voted that Monty and Lauren Ellis were the man and woman of the match.
