Due to the prolonged period of freezing weather, Leicester Hockey Club Christmas gathering this year had to quickly transform from an outdoor "Santa 7s" into an indoor "Santa 6s"! All teams M1-4, W1-2, Juniors, Youth and Parents were represented in a grand mix of social hockey ... a few first-team players had mysteriously disallowed goals (for being too good!) and any penalties were shared around with many players stepping up to take their first ever PS.
Fancy dress was optional, but the Santa outfits, Christmas lights, hats and odd bit of tinsel all added to the occasion. "Team1" emerged victorious, but what really counted was the mix of players and fun of the game. Henry top-scored with four goals, but there was a long list of goal-scorers (Adam2, Andy, Charlotte, Dave, Emma, Ethan, James2, Josh, Leena, Liv, Lucia, Millie, Pete, Phobe, Tom3)
Post-games, everyone very much enjoyed a curry back in the clubhouse (samosas and bhaji from Mithaas on Narborough Road for those who wanted to know www.mithaas.co.uk ) and either a chicken or veggie curry.
Lots of people to thank: Meggo & Dave for organising, Nina for making curries and more organising, everyone who helped move tables or tidy the sports hall, those who umpired, the goalies who rotated teams, the youth players who were "volunteered" to help with the washing up and who did it all with good grace!
Thank you to everyone who took part. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year, but get ready for the onslaught of rearranged fixtures in January!
